Magna Radio visits Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance to see life-saving work up close

Magna Radio recently had the privilege of visiting the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance, gaining a behind-the-scenes tour of one of the region’s most vital emergency services.

The visit allowed the Magna team to see first-hand how air ambulance crews operate and the critical role they play across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. From the moment a mission is tasked, the team works to bring advanced medical care directly to patients at the scene of serious incidents, effectively taking a hospital to the patient when every second counts.

During the tour, the team learned more about the sheer scale of the service. The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance covers around 3,500 square miles, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Since launching in 1994, the charity has flown more than 25,000 missions, responding to life-threatening emergencies across both counties.

Magna Radio were also struck by the speed and precision of the operation. The aircraft can reach speeds of over 200 miles per hour, allowing crews to reach even the furthest corners of the region in around 20 minutes. This rapid response time can make the difference between life and death for patients suffering from serious trauma or medical emergencies.

The visit included time with clinical crew and support staff, who explained how the service relies almost entirely on public donations and fundraising to continue operating. Unlike many emergency services, the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance does not receive regular government funding, making community support essential to keeping the helicopters flying.

Tom Priestley, founder of Magna Radio, said:
“As a radio station rooted in the communities we serve, it was incredibly humbling to see the work this charity does every single day. Hearing first-hand about the skill, dedication and compassion of the crew really brought home just how vital this service is for people across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.”

Magna Radio would like to thank everyone at the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance for welcoming the team and sharing insight into their life-saving work. The station plans to continue supporting the charity by sharing their story on air and helping raise awareness of the incredible service they provide.
