A donation of £4,554 from South Holland District Council Chairlady Jan Whitbourn's charitable fund is helping to support the homeless and those in need of practical help.
A formal presentation was made to the Spalding-based community initiative, Project St Thomas, during Cllr Whitbourn's visit to its community café in the town's St Thomas's Road.
The funding has enabled the project to invest in essential catering equipment, helping ensure the café can continue providing affordable meals and a welcoming space where residents can access support from a range of local services.
Money for the Chairlady's charity was raised during her first year in office through various events including a charity race night, flower arranging competition and quiz night. For her second year as Chairlady, funds will be again be donated to Project St Thomas and Spalding Lions.
Praising the project and the positive impact it is having across the district, Cllr Whitbourn said: "I think it's wonderful. We wanted to do something local and this is one of the best things that we can do because it's helping the homeless.
"The project is doing some excellent work and it's great to see that work in action."
Project St Thomas, an initiative linked with the Catholic Diocese of Nottingham, provides a range of support services and works closely with partner organisations to assist local people.
Tracy Carter, Relationship Manager at Project St Thomas, said: "We do lots of great support projects including the community cafe. We also run a session on Thursdays where anyone can come for a meal for £1.50 and receive support from Framework, Lincolnshire Recovery Partnership and the homelessness team at South Holland District Council.
"The £4,554 raised by the Chairlady's charity has already helped us purchase a large catering hot cabinet which means that we can now run the café. Going forwards it will help us purchase other items, including contributing towards a new large catering freezer that we're looking to purchase as well.
"It makes an immense difference for us, we really appreciate this important donation."
