This National Dog Day (26 August), charity Dogs for Good is shining a light on the extraordinary role dogs can play in helping people live happier, healthier and more independent lives, and the positive ripple effect this can have on families and communities. At a time when loneliness and social isolation remain significant challenges, Dogs for Good says the unique bond between people and dogs can provide far more than companionship. Through its assistance dog, community dog and family-focused services, the charity sees first-hand how dogs can help people build confidence, connect with others and participate more fully in everyday life. Research from Creating Possibilities Impact report demonstrates the scale of that difference. 93% of people surveyed said they felt more confident leaving the house after accessing the charity’s services, while 89% reported becoming more independent when getting out and about. The benefits extend to emotional and social wellbeing too. 92% reported an improvement in their mood. Dogs for Good is working towards its goal of positively impacting 6,000 people every year by 2028, while helping to create more inclusive communities and reduce reliance on overstretched public services.
