Young people across North Lincolnshire will find out their GCSE results tomorrow (Thursday 20 August) after months of hard work, revision and exams.
For some, the results will be exactly what they hoped for. Others may be disappointed, while many will still be working out what they want to do next.
Whatever happens, the message to young people and their families is simple: there is a next step.
More than 98 per cent of 16 and 17-year-olds in North Lincolnshire are in education, employment or training, compared with around 96 per cent nationally – with young people locally going on to sixth form, college, apprenticeships, training and employment.
Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children, families and young people, said: “Results morning is exciting, but I know there will be some very nervous young people – and probably some equally nervous parents – waiting to find out what those grades say.
“You’ve put the work in to get here and you should be proud of that. If you get the grades you wanted, that’s fantastic and you should celebrate them.
“But if things don’t quite go to plan, please don’t panic. A different result might mean taking a different route, but there are so many routes available and people who can help you work out what comes next.
“More than 98 per cent of young people in North Lincolnshire are in education, employment or training by 16 and 17. That tells you something really important – there isn’t just one route to success.
“And to the parents, carers, grandparents, teachers, school staff and everyone else who has helped young people get this far – thank you. Your support will be just as important when they decide what they want to do next.”
Young people can explore opportunities through sixth forms, colleges, apprenticeships, training and employment, with schools and colleges available to help students understand their options if their results are different from those they expected.
Young people, parents and carers looking for additional advice can also speak to teams at North Lincolnshire’s Community Hubs or access national support through the National Careers Service Exam Results Helpline and Skills for Careers.
