South Holland District Council has adopted a strengthened Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Policy for its housing landlord service, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring tenants feel safe, secure and supported in their homes.
The policy, which was approved by Cabinet, sets out how the Council will prevent, manage and respond to anti-social behaviour and hate crime across its housing stock, placing tenants at the heart of the approach.
Anti-social behaviour can include a wide range of issues such as noise nuisance, threatening or abusive behaviour, and other conduct that causes harassment, alarm or distress. The Council recognises the serious impact this can have on individuals and communities and is committed to taking swift and effective action.
The policy puts tenants’ safety and wellbeing first, prioritising prevention and early intervention to stop issues escalating. It includes clear definitions of what classes as ASB, alongside a stronger emphasis on partnership working with agencies to address risk and support victims.
Tenants have been directly involved in shaping the policy through focus groups, scrutiny, as well as feedback provided through a survey.
The Regulator of Social Housing places a greater emphasis on social housing providers such as South Holland District Council to take a proactive and transparent approach to preventing and tackling ASB, while supporting tenants to maintain safe, well-managed neighbourhoods.
Cllr Tracey Carter, Portfolio Holder for Strategic and Operational Housing at South Holland District Council, said: “Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home and community. This strengthened policy reinforces our commitment to supporting tenants and taking firm action where anti-social behaviour occurs.
By focusing on prevention, early intervention and closer partnership working, we can better protect those affected and help build stronger, safer neighbourhoods across South Holland. We are grateful to our tenants who have helped shape this policy and ensure it reflects their needs and experiences.”
