130 Years of James Dawson – Built on Tradition, Powered by Innovation

Lincoln, UK – 2026 – James Dawson, a cornerstone of British manufacturing in Lincolnshire, is celebrating its 130th anniversary, marking more than a century of heritage, innovation, and commitment to engineering excellence.

Not many people have celebrated a 130th anniversary. In fact no one currently alive was when James Dawson became a private limited company back in 1896. The brand has come a long way from its historic roots. Well known in the Lincoln area, James Dawson is core pillar in the Lincolnshire manufacturing community and has operated on the same site since its inception on Tritton road.

While much has changed over the past 130 years, the company’s commitment to quality, innovation, and community has remained constant. Much of the business now is in some ways unrecognisable from its foundation but a shocking amount does remain the same.

To commemorate this milestone year, the company has delved into its archives to piece together its rich history and celebrate the journey that has carried one man’s name firmly into the 21st century. Over time, much of the early history has been lost, and there is no single official timeline. What you see below has been carefully pieced together from the limited materials that remain.

For more than 130 years, James Dawson has stood at the forefront of British manufacturing, helping to shape life and industry in Lincolnshire and beyond. The anniversary is both a celebration of that legacy and a reflection of the innovation that continues to drive the business forward.

As part of the celebrations, James Dawson invites the public and industry alike to explore its heritage through a curated selection of archive materials, available online at:

In addition, a small display featuring highlights from the company’s history can be viewed at the Museum of Lincolnshire Life.

Over the rest of 2026, the business will also be opening its doors to host two events for local manufacturers, offering an insight into its processes and celebrating the strength of British manufacturing.

Further underlining its commitment to innovation and skills development, James Dawson is launching a special 130th Anniversary Innovation Award. In partnership with local schools and colleges, the initiative invites students aged 13–17 to work in teams to solve a real-world engineering challenge, with prizes awarded to winning entries. We have limited spaces but are still looking for teams so get in touch if you’re a school that’s interested.

As James Dawson marks 130 years of history, the company remains firmly focused on the future—built on tradition, and powered by innovation.
