John Marshall was back on Magna Radio after a weekend away in London with his daughter Eleanor, and while the memories were priceless, his bank balance might need a little recovery time.
One thing that caught listeners’ attention was John revealing he tipped a hotel staff member for carrying his luggage to the room for the first time in his life. The big question on Monday’s show was simple: what’s the right amount to tip? John handed over £5, but opinions were divided on whether that was generous or not enough.
The show also turned into an unofficial celebration of terrible dad jokes after psychologists reportedly analysed more than 32,000 of them to work out why some make us laugh while others make us cringe. John shared some of his favourites with listeners:
“I accidentally passed my wife a glue stick instead of her ChapStick. She’s still not talking to me.”
“What country’s capital is growing the fastest? Ireland. Every day it’s Dublin.”
“I told a joke on a Zoom meeting but nobody laughed. It turns out I’m not remotely funny.”
“My dad asked me if I was an organ donor. He’s a man after my own heart.”
Listeners were also treated to another edition of Topical Tune after Steep Hill in Lincoln was named Britain’s prettiest street by The Telegraph. The iconic cobbled climb, packed with independent shops, cafés and historic landmarks, inspired a hill-themed playlist.
