Belton Bowls Club is being helped to keep growing, while stopping its green from doing the same, thanks to support from North Lincolnshire Council.
The club has been awarded £8,900 through the council’s community grant fund to improve the facilities used by volunteers to care for the green, helping protect the work that keeps its teams, coaching sessions and community roll-ups running throughout the season.
The investment comes during a strong period of growth for Belton Bowls Club, which now has more than 60 members more than double from just a couple of years ago.
The club runs six teams, including two aimed at newer bowlers and a ladies-only team, with a fully qualified coach helping new players build confidence, improve their skills and take part competitively.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Community grants are about backing local residents who are making a real difference in their communities.
“More than 60 people are now members of this club, twice as many as a couple of years ago, and that doesn't happen by accident.
“It happens because local volunteers give up their time to coach people, welcome new members, run teams and do all the work needed to keep the green playable.
“This grant isn't doing that work for them – it's backing the people who are already doing it and helping them do even more.”
The upgraded facilities will make it easier for volunteers to keep the green in top condition for the members, teams and residents who use it each week.
With safer storage and better space to look after equipment, the club will be able to reduce some of the avoidable challenges that come with maintaining a busy village sports facility.
