Boston Borough Council's Cabinet has this week approved ‘Build it in Boston’, a new pilot programme designed to attract high-growth businesses, create local opportunities and strengthen the borough's economy.
The initiative will promote the borough to businesses in sectors such as digital, technology and IT services, encouraging them to choose Boston as a place to establish and grow their operations.
On Wednesday (30 September), the council’s Cabinet approved an initial investment of £45,000 to run the pilot, aiming to put Boston's combination of affordable business space, available town centre locations, strong transport links and support from local institutions on the radar of growing businesses seeking a cost-effective base from which to expand.
Following a preparatory stage funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the scheme will initially run from Winter 2026 – Spring 2027, and include a targeted marketing campaign with financial support for businesses that commit to setting up a base in Boston. The aim is to attract investment from the UK and overseas that will benefit local people, help fill available office space and support the local economy.
The initiative supports the council's wider ambition to drive economic growth, attract investment and create new opportunities for residents and businesses across the borough to find different types of work and diversify their own offer.
Councillor Sandeep Ghosh, portfolio holder for finance and economic growth, said: “For too long, places like Boston have not always been on the radar when businesses are deciding where to invest. Build it in Boston is about changing that and taking a proactive approach to showing businesses what our borough can offer.
“We have affordable space, good connectivity, a supportive business environment and access to a talented and diverse workforce. We want to take that message directly to businesses that are looking for somewhere to establish or expand, including those that may not have considered Boston before.
“This is about more than simply attracting businesses. We want to bring new investment into the borough, support the creation of good local jobs, increase demand for commercial space in our town centre and across the borough, and strengthen Boston’s reputation as a place to live, work and do business.
