The next stretch of the Burringham Bypass is set to be built after North Lincolnshire Council agreed funding to connect Burringham Road to the southern M181 junction.
Construction is due to start in October, with the road expected to be complete by the end of February 2027.
Once open, it will provide access to Ashmere, the first Trent Vale village, and give people in Ashby, Bottesford, Burringham, Yaddlethorpe and Messingham a more direct route to the motorway.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “People have waited a long time for this connection. So have I. We built the motorway junction first; now we’ve agreed the funding to join it to Burringham Road.
“It will make a real difference to journeys across this part of Scunthorpe and give new homes at Trent Vale the roads they need from the outset.
“That roundabout is no longer going nowhere. It will be the gateway to new homes and communities for North Lincolnshire residents.”
Cllr Neil Poole, cabinet member for roads, highways and flooding, said: “For people in the surrounding villages, this is about easier everyday journeys and a proper route to the motorway. It’s good to see the connection moving towards construction.”
Funding has been agreed through the Local Regeneration Fund. Keepmoat Homes will deliver the road, with the construction contract still to be awarded.
The decision comes as plans for Trent Vale’s new villages move forward. Ashmere has planning permission and Keepmoat has started work on site.
A further proposal from Hargreaves Land for homes and a local centre has been approved, while Gleeson Homes has submitted applications for more homes, a primary school and local facilities elsewhere in Trent Vale.
