John’s Show Round Up – Monday

Monday Round-Up with John Marshall

John was back on air this morning and, after a weekend escape to the coast, he had plenty to get off his chest.

A trip over to Norfolk sounded like the perfect idea on paper. Wells-next-the-Sea and Hunstanton both got the thumbs up for being beautiful spots, but John came to one firm conclusion. They are just a bit too far for a day trip. Worth it if you are staying longer, maybe not if you are clock-watching the whole way home. It sparked the question to listeners. What did you get up to this weekend?

Back at home, things were slightly less picturesque. John woke up to what can only be described as a cheese explosion in the kitchen. Worktops covered, floor a mess, grated cheese everywhere. Daughter Eleanor is the prime suspect, although there is still no official ruling on whether the dog has secretly learned how to make late-night toasties.

Things did not improve much as the day went on. John revealed he had skipped both breakfast and lunch. This, he claims, is down to some strong “advice” from Magna’s Lucy, who suggested cutting out daytime eating might help his figure. Whether that counts as helpful guidance or workplace bullying is still up for debate, but listeners definitely noticed John getting more and more irritable as the morning rolled on.

Then came the Topical Tune, inspired by a story that felt straight out of a sci-fi film. An ex-CIA spy claims humans can tap into “infinite consciousness” and that psychic ability might not be limited to specialists. According to him, with the right approach, we could all unlock it. Naturally, that led to a brilliantly themed set of guesses from listeners:

5 – SL2 ‘Way In My Brain’ – Yvonne in Tattershall
4 – Jimmy Cliff ‘You Can Get It If You Really Want’ – Tina, Pete and Hooch in Hykeham
3 – Limmie and Family Cookin’ ‘You Can Do Magic’ – James in Newark
2 – The Killers ‘Read My Mind’ – Sarah and Katie in Louth
1 – Coldplay ‘Higher Power’ – Phil

Another packed morning with John, and if nothing else, a reminder to check your kitchen before accusing the dog.
