A new project to protect and celebrate the countryside of North and South Kesteven has been awarded around £250,000 of development funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Roots of Kesteven is led by Lincolnshire County Council, working with North Kesteven and South Kesteven district councils, the Woodland Trust and Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.

Over the coming months, the partners will gather evidence and talk to local people about how to connect up wildlife habitats, improve access to nature and get more people involved in local heritage. The area covers woodland, farmland, villages and historic sites.

The aim is to build a bigger, long-term programme. The county council's Matthew Davey said the first phase is about understanding "what is important to people" and how to protect the character of Kesteven for future generations.
