More than 6,600 fines have been issued to people littering and breaking antisocial behaviour rules across North Lincolnshire as the council continues its crackdown on those who spoil communities.
New figures reveal 2,445 fixed penalty notices were issued in the last year alone – an increase of almost 19 per cent on the previous year.
The council has also stepped-up enforcement against irresponsible parking, with 341 penalty notices issued since March.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “People should not have to put up with littering, antisocial behaviour or irresponsible parking.
“The overwhelming majority of residents do the right thing but there are a small number of people who think they can drop litter, ignore the rules and park irresponsibly.
“If people expect others to tidy up after them, or show no consideration to others, they will pay.”
Now North Lincolnshire Council will continue the crackdown for another three years, targeting offenders, responding to community concerns and keeping streets cleaner and safer by extending its contract for a further three years.
Enforcement officers tackle a range of offences, including littering, dog fouling and breaches of Public Spaces Protection Orders.
The council expanded its enforcement arrangements in March to include on-street parking, allowing officers to target problem areas around schools and other locations where residents have raised concerns.
Cllr John Davison, cabinet member for Ashby, Bottesford and Scunthorpe, added: “We've issued more than 6,600 fines over the past three years, that’s 6,600 fines we did not want to issue but make no apologies for doing so.
“Where people refuse to take responsibility, we will take action.”
