North Lincolnshire Council has confirmed that a section of Station Road in Hibaldstow, which has been closed following a diesel spill, needs to be fully resurfaced and is taking action to get the road reopened as quickly as possible.

Highways engineers have assessed the damage and concluded that the road surface needs replacing, warning that it would deteriorate further if traffic returned.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Residents have waited long enough. They are understandably frustrated, and frankly, so am I.

“No-one on Station Road cares about arguments between companies, contractors and insurers over who is responsible. They just want their road back, and so do I.

“Our engineers have been out, assessed the road and established what needs to happen. The surface has been damaged to the point where it needs removing and replacing. Simply reopening it isn’t an option because it will start to break up once traffic starts using it again.

“So, we’re going to get it sorted, one way or another. We’ve given them until Friday to agree the repairs and get a contractor booked in. If that doesn’t happen, we’ve already got our own contractor on standby to carry out the resurfacing next week. We’ll get the road fixed and pursue the costs from those responsible.

“My priority, and that of local ward councillors Trevor Foster and David Garrett, is getting Station Road reopened safely and as quickly as possible. Residents have been patient enough, and they deserve to see action.”
