One of Grimsby town centre's biggest empty buildings is getting a new tenant.
TK Maxx has confirmed it will move from its first-floor unit in Freshney Place into the former House of Fraser building, which North East Lincolnshire Council bought in December 2023. The new store will have 22,000 sq ft of space with entrances on both Victoria Street and Freshney Place.
More than £1.6 million will be spent refurbishing the ground floor before TK Maxx fits it out. Separately, the council has applied to the National Lottery Heritage Fund to restore the building's historic Victoria Street frontage.
The store will sit next to the Freshney Place leisure extension, which is under construction and due to open in 2027 with a cinema, restaurants and a new market space.
Cllr Oliver Freeston, leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said: "The relocation of TK Maxx to the former House of Fraser building is a significant step in bringing the building back into active use and improving the Victoria Street frontage."
TK Maxx's current unit will be re-marketed.
